Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing Michael Farrugia announced a new agreement between the Department for Active Ageing and Community Care and the St Paul’s Bay Local Council. This agreement will now see several elderly residents of St Paul’s Bay and those of the adjacent localities benefiting from the various services and activities offered at the St Paul’s Bay Active Ageing Centre.
“This agreement demonstrates the dynamic and incessant collaboration between the Department for Active Ageing and Community Care and St Paul’s Bay Local Council for the benefit of the senior citizens living in St Paul’s Bay and the various adjacent localities”, said Minister Farrugia.
The local council will provide the premises and cover part of the transport costs, while the Department for Active Ageing and Community Care will be responsible for the daily running of the centre by providing professional staff who also design and coordinate the programme of activities.
The minister commended the St Paul’s Bay Local Council for the past collaboration in the management of this centre and invited other local councils to follow suit with additional Active Ageing Centres agreements in their localities.
Currently, 22 centres are run by AACC and four are run by local councils with the support of AACC whereby Lifelong Learning sessions are held.
“At these centres, I strongly recommend intergenerational learning of skills and the passing of knowledge”, concluded Minister Farrugia.
The programme implemented by AACC includes sessions of artisanal craft, aerobics, dance, culinary, outdoor activities, intergenerational programs, IT training and others.
