Inquiry clears government of involvement in Daphne Caruana Galizia murder

The Public Inquiry report into the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia has confirmed that the state was not involved directly in her assassination.

Addressing a press conference at Castille this evening Prime Minister Robert Abela said however that the report shows the state must shoulder responsibility for serious short comings especially in relation to good governance and the protection of journalists.

“As Prime Minister I feel duty bound to apologise to the family of the late Mrs Daphne Caruana Galizia”, he said.

This dark episode does not define the people of Malta said Prime Minister Abela.

The inquiry, he said, also recogonizes the efforts of the government during the past eighteen months to strengthen the institutions
