Investment of € 1.4 million for the regeneration of Bugibba square

Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo inaugurates the Buġibba Square Project

The Malta Tourism Authority will be investing € 1.4 million to regenerate the Bugibba square.

This project, which is expected to start work next year, will be based on new paving, a substantial increase in trees, as well as recreational areas for all ages.

These details were announced at a news conference by the Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo in the presence of the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Clayton Bartolo pointed out how this project symbolizes a change in mentality for the way we look at tourism infrastructure.

“It is useless to encourage the private sector to invest in hotels or restaurants without doing our part as a government to make the tourist experience a quality one,” said Minister Bartolo.

He stressed that today’s project is not the government’s only commitment to improving the quality of life in St Paul’s Bay, but that more work will be done in the coming weeks and months to challenges facing this locality are beginning to be seriously addressed.

Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia stressed how this square was changed to what we know it today more than twenty years ago.

“As an Authority and Ministry for Tourism, we have agreed that this is the right moment for this square, which is an important link for the Maltese tourism product, to be given the attention it so much deserves. The ultimate goal of this project is that, in addition to beautifying this area, we will also make it accessible to all, making it an ideal destination for people of all generations, ”he concluded.
