Malta has obtained a derogation from the European Commission that will allow a proposed hydrogen-ready pipeline to be finally recognised as a Project of Common Interest by the EU.
The EU earlier this year had turned down an application to fund the pipeline project saying there was not sufficient justification for the project.
Negotiations were led by Energy Minister Miriam Dalli who said, “The derogation agreed upon the Energy Council meeting in Luxembourg will apply for Malta and Cyprus. The EU energy ministers met on Friday to reach a general approach on the Review of the Trans-European Energy Regulation before negotiations with the other institutions kick off. This agreement must now be confirmed during the trialogues.”
