With the € 130,000 allocated to Malta to improve the protection of our country’s coastal heritage and increase the recycling of marine waste.
The need for more protection of Malta’s coastal heritage as well as the recycling of marine waste were discussed during an informative seminar called BLUEfasma, which was attended by the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, -Food and Animal Rights Anton Refalo. BLUEfasma is a project that contributes to an effective circular economy, and therefore involves the efficient use of marine litter and other related waste. This work is done through collaboration with small and medium-sized enterprises to also strengthen investment in research development, while offering training services or schemes tailored to groups focused on public funding opportunities.
This project is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund through the Interreg MED Program 2014-2020, where € 2.8 million was allocated, of which Malta benefited with € 130,000.
The main goal of the BLUEfasma Living Labs project is to bring together all the major stakeholders involved in the circular economy in the fisheries and aquaculture sector. This is done through ecosystem-focused innovation, networking, transnational cooperation, and developing synergies between stakeholders and economic sectors.
