More parents will be paid the temporary Covid benefit this weekend

Minister for Education and Employment Owen Bonnici and Minister for the Family, Children's Rights and Social Solidarity Michael Falzon address a press conference on the 'Financial Capability Education Fun Books Competition'

At the end of this week, more parents of children under 16 and children with severe disabilities will be receiving the temporary benefit of Covid-19 due to the closure of schools.

In fact by next Saturday 594 families will have been paid out of 732 applicants who have had their application processed so far. This means that 81% of those who apply are eligible and paid.

With the payment at the end of this week, the cost will have risen to € 232,524 which when the social security contribution will also be paid, the expenditure will exceed € 258,000.

Minister for Solidarity and Social Justice, the Family and the Rights of the Child Michael Falzon reiterated that this Government will continue to assist families as long as necessary, as it has always done throughout the ages. In this way we will continue to do social justice, because we are a Government of the people and for the people.
