Following allegations by Opposition MP Jason Azzopardi that the Principal Permanent Secretary Mario Cutajar had a tax official arrested and forced him to resign, Mario Cutajar this morning released a statement totally refuting the claims by the Opposition MP.

Principal Permanent Secretary, Mario Cutajar said that twice before Jason Azzopardi had tried to tarnish his name.

Jason Azzopardi had alleged that he helped a relative get a government job when in fact the person in question was not a relative but simply had the same surname.

Another time Jason Azzopardi alleged that Mario Cutajar gave a family member a post with the government when in fact that person had been appointed by the previous administration.

Mario Cutajar said that when he became Head of the Public Service in 2013, of two cases that came before him, one involved involved tampering with exams and another involved tax abuse.

In both cases and in any other case that came before him he had no contact with police or tried to exert any pressure on any official.

“What the Hon. Jason Azzopardi once again alleged against me in Parliament yesterday is once again far from the truth”, said Mario Cutajar.
