The Minister for the Elderly and Active Aging Michael Farrugia visited the Local Council of Ħal Safi where an agreement was signed between Active Aging and Community Care and the Local Council of Ħal Safi which will serve for the AACC as well as the Local Council of Ħal Safi to work together to start the first community initiative in favour of dementia in Malta. The local council welcomed the challenge of being the first to undertake this project in favour of dementia in Malta.
“Dementia-friendly communities are towns or villages where people with dementia are understood, respected and supported. In a pro-dementia community people are aware and understand what dementia is and so these people with dementia can continue to live actively in the community of their choice. Through this agreement, the two parties will be working together to achieve the first community here in Malta with the main objective of reducing stigma and raising awareness of the condition, ”he explained. Minister Michael Farrugia.
