“Everyone has a right to social justice, when it comes to a challenge of social justice, let’s not think that there is someone who will solve everything, only each and every one of us can make a difference in someone’s life.” This was stated by the Minister for Solidarity and Social Justice, Family and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon, while addressing a conference on ‘Social Justice, the Way Forward’.
Minister Michael Falzon reiterated his satisfaction with the way the Labour party and movement has always understood that we want to help the most disadvantaged, and facilitate a system where everyone goes up one step and more than one, no matter what social level they come from.
This conference was organized by this Ministry on the eve of the international day commemorating the importance of delivering social justice.
Minister Michael Falzon recalled how, back in 2013, a Labor government rose with the promise of doing more good, bringing up thousands of people who had been forgotten by previous administrations. As was the case in the 1970s and 1980s, new job opportunities were created, initiatives to get more people into the world of work, such as tapering of benefits, inwork benefits, free childcare for all, transport for free school for children, free public transport for the elderly, as well as consecutive pension increases, year after year. This is because the country can afford it and does not see this as a burden, but as a way of recognizing more than 92,000 pensioners in our country.
