Minister for the Economy and Industry Silvio Schembri emphasized the importance for the Lands Authority to be more open and enhance efficiency with better consumer services.
‘It is crucial that the authority now moves on to the next phase in the best interest of the general public. I am aware of the great challenges that exist and that will be addressed in the coming months. I will see that the authority will put the consumer at the centre of its work. With the introduction of new methods from an operational point of view, this will help for better access to information, fewer bureaucratic systems burdening the same authority and, above all, the adoption and operation of digital methods that stimulate efficiency”, said Minister Schembri.
He said that at the heart of this work is the promotion of greater transparency which will be supported by digitalization which will help the authority to open its doors more. Expressing his awareness of the challenges, Minister Schembri stated that important decisions will be taken in the near future to pave the way for the authority.
‘I want to see a more open authority whose work fully embraces the interest of the needs of the Maltese and Gozitan public, which seeks to stand shoulder to shoulder, to invest in new methods and technologies that strengthen its operation. An ambitious vision to which I will see that in the future this authority will trigger the necessary reforms, be pro-active, be the one to put forward its proposals, and be an important partner in the best interest of all ’, said Minister Schembri.
The new Chief Executive for the Land Authority Robert Vella explained how the workers are full of enthusiasm and are in favour of a plan that will boost the authority to be more efficient, transparent, and of good service to the consumer.
He reminded that despite the difficulties that this authority faces every year, it contributes over €40 million to the country’s income. “Considering that the Government of Malta has almost 60% of the property in the country, one can only imagine what potential there is for the future of this authority. Investing in this Authority can only be good for everyone,” said Mr Vella. He concluded that this visit is a symbolic one and marks the opening of the second phase of the change that the authority needs. “I know that I am speaking for all workers when I tell you that everyone is ready to do their part to overcome the great challenges that we will surely face,” concluded the Chief Executive of the Land Authority.
