The Cospicua Housing Estate has been revitalized through an investment of €700,000 which translates into the embellishment of the facades, maintenance of the roofs and other reparatory works in the common parts of 13 blocks. 90 families will benefit from this project.

During a visit to the social housing blocks in Triq Alessandra, Cospicua, Minister for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes reiterated that it would not make sense if the government built new social housing blocks without carrying out an extensive regeneration program on the existing ones.

“The quality of life of families already living in social housing is a priority for us. Testament of this is the unprecedented investment we are making in the regeneration of existing social housing blocks. 2020 was the year in which the Government made an investment of €2.6 million, which made it possible for the regeneration of 46 apartment blocks, improving the environment for 500 families.”

Minister Roderick Galdes added that these works also make a difference in the lives of the neighbouring residents.

“For far too long, social housing has been synonymous with neglect, affecting not only the residents of the building but also the families living in the same area. So, simultaneously, this project is aesthetically improving the villages and towns in which approximately 5,000 people live in social housing apartments.”

Regeneration works include waterproofing of  roofs, general improvements to the common areas and renovation of facades and balconies. These works are being carried out by the Housing Authority in conjunction with the Housing, Maintenance and Embellishment Ltd.
