The Engineering Board has approved the course called Pre-Warrant Qualification Course (PWQC) through which MCAST graduate engineers can access the warrant of engineers under Maltese law after successfully completing the the specific course.
This is an important step for MCAST Vocational and Professional College as now a student who has graduated from the Bachelor of Engineering course can apply to take the warrant to practice as a professional engineer with all the rights conferred by law. .
This is possible after the German agency ASIIN, known in the field for the evaluation of standards in the study of engineering recommended to the Board of Engineers to approve this MCAST course which has the academic content in order to lead to a graduating student being able to obtain the warrant of an engineer. With this step, the injustice suffered by the students who have been graduating since 2013 has finally come to an end after a meticulous evaluation process after work done during the last 4 and a half years.
Ministers Ian Borg and Justyne Caruana said this move is opening up opportunities for students to go to MCAST to take the engineering warrant. “The assessment of the German agency has clearly shown how students graduating from the MCAST Bachelor of Engineering course can now join other Maltese and Gozitan graduates so that they can pursue a warrant and a career in engineering as well as continue with studies at the post-graduate level. The government considers this step to be one that opens more doors for Maltese and Gozitan youth to receive a high level of tertiary education and that leads to professional careers. More than 200 MCAST students will be able to benefit from this decision of the Board of Engineers. “
Following this decision, MCAST announces that it will begin two PWQC courses, one for electrical engineering and another for mechanical engineering. To this end MCAST will open applications for these courses immediately and all those with a Bachelor of Engineering (BEng) from MCAST can apply. These students will be trained on the latest developments in the field of engineering through technical academic study units and also a project related to the studies that will be carried out with the guidance of expert lecturers. MCAST also announced that it will absorb the costs of conducting these courses because it strongly believes in these students who will be an important foundation for the engineering profession in our country in the near future.
