Agius nabs winner for Hibs against Sliema
Andre Agius netted the only goal in Hibernians win over title contenders Sliema Wanderers.
Just under ten minutes into the second half following some slick movement by Hibs, Andre Agius slotted home for what turned out to be the only goal of an entertaining encounter at the Hibernians Stadium.
The clash between the sides second and third in the table started brightly with Jurgen Degabriele finding space inside the box only to see Sliema’s keeper blocking his effort.
With a quarter hour gone Hibs thought they had scored when Leandro Almeida’s header hit the crossbar with the ball appearing to bounce over the line but the referee waved their claims for a goal.
As the first clock ticked down, Sliema started to build up a head of steam, Cisotti’s free kick causing a moment of panic in the Hibs goal area with keeper Matthew Calleja Cremona relieved to see the danger cleared.
Into the second half and torrential rain that lasted for much of the last twenty minutes making play difficult for both teams.
Hibs defended their lead to see out the game and clinch three vital points to move within two of leaders Hamrun.
