Education Minister slams strike call by teachers union

Education Minister Justyne Caruana has slammed the sudden strike called by the Malta Union of Teachers.

During a television interview she dismissed claims by the MUT that the government had ignored advice by health authorities to close schools.

Minister Caruana said that the Superintendent of Public Health Professor Charmaine Gauci has said there were no concerns about opening schools. If Professor Gauci had advised closing schools, the government would have implemented that measure immediately.

The strike started on Thursday and is expected to continue on Friday.
