Ian Deguara appointed Commissioner for Information and Data Protection

The Ministry of Justice, Equality and Governance announces that Ian Deguara has been appointed as the new Commissioner for Information and Data Protection.

Mr Deguara holds a degree in Computer Science and Administration from the University of Malta. He was one of the first employees to form the Office of Information and Data Protection upon its establishment in 2002. During his years of service in this office, Ian Deguara has held various roles and formed part of the national task force for the implementation of the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR) in accordance with the rules of the European Commission. Since January 2020, Mr Deguara has served as Deputy Commissioner.

The Minister for Justice, Equality and Governance Edward Zammit Lewis congratulates Ian Deguara on this appointment and wishes him every success in this post for the years to come.

Minister Zammit Lewis thanked the former Commissioner for Information and Data Protection, Savior Cachia, for the service he has rendered to the Maltese State over the years.
