Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne inaugurated a new angiosuite at Mater Dei Hospital.
This angiosuite was made with an investment of € 400,000 which is part of an investment of € 5.5 million for the upgrade of new devices and equipment in the Department of Medical Imaging.
With this angiosuit, a number of specialized interventions can now be performed that were not previously performed on people who have just had a stroke. This machine can also help treat cancer by giving chemotherapy directly into the arteries.
“During this year, the Ministry of Health was focused, we worked and invested as much as possible on the Covid-19 but our other work continued to be done and this investment in the Department of Medical Imaging is one of them “, said the Deputy Prime Minister.
In Malta we have between 10 and 15 interventions a day in angiosuite.
The Chairman of Medical Imaging, Dr Kenneth Saliba, said that through this angiosuite this department will be continuing to help surgeons, including those of the heart and vascular, by being able to see the arteries of the body, even the small ones, in an enlarged way and thus there will be more precision in the interventions that are made.
