A potential coronavirus vaccine has been deemed to be 94.5% effective at preventing people from getting the virus.
US biotechnology company Moderna made the claim – based on preliminary data – on Monday.
It comes just a week after a similar announcement from competitor Pfizer which claimed it had a vaccine 90% effective.
Dr. Anthony Fauci, America’s top infectious disease doctor. “It’s just as good as it gets — 94.5% is truly outstanding,” adding that vaccinations could begin as early as the second half of December.
The European Medicines Agency announced it will continue to evaluate the Moderna vaccine with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen saying the EU already has five vaccine contracts and was working on a sixth contract with Moderna.
