The Ministry for Tourism and Consumer Protection, through its entity Parks Malta, has launched the budget measure which will see another 7,000 trees in Maltese and Gozitan towns and villages. This as part of the government’s commitment to give each council 100 trees.
During a visit to Howard Gardens in Mdina, where this week 300 shrubs were planted in this garden which attracts not only Maltese families but also thousands of tourists every year, the Minister for Tourism and the Protection of -Consumer Julia Farrugia Portelli explained how in a few days since the announcement of the 100 tree scheme to each local council, they have competed with interest for this scheme.
“The government is committed to continuing to green open and public spaces in every town and village in our country and therefore in the budget we have committed to give another 7,000 trees in a new scheme. The interest has already been very positive, and together with Parks Malta we will continue to work to continue to improve our localities. ”
Present with Minister Farrugia Portelli were several members from the Mdina Local Council. Mayor Peter Sant Manduca expressed his gratitude to Parks Malta and the Ministry for this commitment and mentioned the importance of the cooperation between the government and the local councils from which the communities benefit.
Present on behalf of Parks Malta was the Director Ivan Farrugia who explained how the entity has assisted and given its help in recent months. He said that during this year Parks Malta planted more than 5,200 trees.
