Valletta made up some ground on the premier leaders with a tight 2-1 win over Senglea Athletic.
City desperately need the points to reduce the eight point gap on leaders Hibernians and the three against the bottom side have gone some way in cutting that deficit.
A goal in each half, Matteo Piciollo after ten minutes and Mario Fontanella shortly after the restart enough to clinch the win but not before Senglea caused some anxious moments when Kevaughn Atkinson scored to leave the score level at the break.
