Minister for Foreign and European Affairs Evarist Bartolo and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Morocco Nasser Bourita had a phone call wherein they discussed how to strengthen ties between the two countries. They also discussed the situation in Libya.
Minister Bourita congratulated Malta and thanked it for its role in bringing the Libyans closer together to heal the divisions between them, build their country and improve the lives of the Libyan people.
Ministers Bourita and Bartolo agreed to work together to coordinate initiatives in their work within the United Nations and the Berlin process for a political solution to Libya. They also agreed that it should be the Libyans themselves who forge their future, and not other countries that protect their own interests and not those of the Libyan people.
Minister Evarist Bartolo said that the ceasefire was still too weak, and expressed hope that no one would break the truce and throw Libya back into war, causing more pain to the long-suffering Libyan people, who are now facing COVID-19, as well as the destruction of entire areas of the country, lack of electricity and water services, shortage of daily necessities and lack of cash flow.
All this suffering, when Libya can be the richest country in the Mediterranean if it is allowed to find stability and peace, rebuild the country and bring reconciliation and unity among its people.
