Minister for Tourism and Consumer Protection Julia Farrugia Portelli and Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Capital Projects Ian Borg have launched a regeneration plan for the picturesque village of Marsaxlokk with the aim of addressing the needs fully and sustainably infrastructural infrastructure that continues to materialize with a project in the area known as “The Closed”. The project, estimated to cost around € 5 million, is funded by the Ministry of Tourism, and the Grand Harbor Regeneration Corporation (GHRC) will see to it that this project is executed in 14 months.
Minister Farrugia Portelli and Minister Ian Borg visited the project site where they were given a concrete picture of the project by the architects responsible for it.
Minister Julia Farrugia Portelli said that the ultimate goal behind this regeneration plan is to improve the aesthetic and infrastructural aspect of this wonderful village for the benefit of the fishermen, residents, and of the thousands of Maltese and tourists who visit it. “This is one of the most frequented areas by the Maltese at the end of the week but also by thousands of tourists who visit this typical fishing village. In 2019 there were 1,226,992 tourists who visited Marsaxlokk. This means that 45% of the tourists who came to Malta visited Marsaxlokk, “said Minister Farrugia Portelli.
