On the eve of the International Literacy Day, the Ministry in the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela and the National Literacy Agency organized a reading session between the Reading Ambassadors and about 20 children between the ages of nine and thirteen from different scout organizations around Malta, with the aim of promoting the importance of reading.
In his speech on the occasion, Minister Carmelo, whose portfolio also includes sustainable development, called on children to also be ambassadors of reading, sharing this experience with other children and encouraging them to find time. read. Minister Abela stressed how in today’s fast paced life children should still look at reading as an activity that is a part of their day, as reading is the key to learning. He spoke on the 17th United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by the year 2030, among which they promote improving the quality of education through reading. He spoke to the children, to look at exemplary role models of people who love reading, including the National Literacy Agency’s Reading Ambassadors, who in addition to excelling in their respective careers, also have a love for them. towards reading.
This activity was attended by Reading Ambassadors Carmel Busuttil, Gilbert Agius and Savior Darmanin. On behalf of his colleagues, Mr. Busuttil appealed to the children to nurture a love of reading even if some of them do not like school very much. He mentioned his personal experience that reading helped him get a coach’s license and today he is able to read and write in four languages. Also present was the Reading Ambassador Ms Nicole Vella, who won the title of Ms World Malta 2019. She spoke to the children about her passion for reading and how the book takes you to another world. and lets you use your imagination.
