An immigrant from Sudan who was being held in the closed center of Ħal Far died on Wednesday morning at Mater Dei Hospital. The person was apparently injured when he fell from a fence while trying to escape shortly after 5:00 a.m.
This person was given medical assistance by the center’s nurses until the ambulance arrived and was taken to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at around 11:15 a.m.
Sentinel Magistrate Marsianne Farrugia is conducting an inquiry to establish the facts related to this case.
