A successful operation by the Major Crimes Department and the Valletta District Police assisted by the Customs Department, resulted in the arrest of 2 men in connection with thefts of cigarettes from a Valletta warehouse.
Following weeks of investigations, that initiated in the beginning of July, yesterday evening, the Officers entered an apartment in Triq il-Qatta, Swieqi and arrested the men, aged 54 and 26 years residing in Swieqi and Mosta respectively.
From a search inside the apartment, the police recovered 13 boxes containing around 6,500 packets of cigarettes which, allegedly, were to be sold illegally.
The men were taken to the Police lock-up in Floriana for further investigations.
