Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Health Chris Fearne visited the fifth swabbing center which is operating from St Thomas hospital in Qormi.
This swabbing center will be added to the existing ones in Luqa, Pembroke, Mater Dei Hospital and Gozo, thus meeting the demand for swabs and at the same time making more swabs.
In fact, today the country has reached 150,000 swab since the start of the Covid-19 movement, while in the last 24 hours a record number of swab tests were registered, with a total of 2,485.
“From the very beginning of the move, we started doing a number of swab tests, which is crucial to detecting positive cases. With this strategy, positive cases are captured as early as possible and isolated. Afterwards, through contact tracing, the people who had contact with them are quarantined so that as far as possible the movement will not spread, “said Deputy Prime Minister Chris Fearne.
He thanked the management of St Thomas Hospital for joining the public health sector to offer the best service to the Maltese people. He also thanked all the health workers in these times, especially those in the swabbing centers, the public health field and the laboratories.
