Minister for Education and Employment Owen Bonnici launched a major activity which has been organised for the last four years in aid of the Inspire Foundation, ‘The 80’s & 90’s Music Festival’.
Aside from the success of the event itself, through the organisation of this event a considerable amount of new youths are attracted to join this band club and help people in need.
Minister Bonnici mentioned that education is not available only in a classroom but can be achieved outside of school including local band clubs which offer different types of learning and development of one’s skills. This is done thanks to the promotion a band club does in order to promote the advancement of culturally rich traditional Maltese feasts, the pyrotechnic arts and free musical education to all.
Minister Bonnici said that, “in this case, the San Leonardu Band Club has engaged three professional tutors in order to offer specialised training in the different sections which form part of a typical Maltese band. Apart from musical education, a band club offers its youths and members various occasions to develop their character and skills through informal learning. Youths and members can be part of the organisation of various activities whilst being part of various committees. Moreover, it is emphasised that as part of their social commitment, an annual activity is organised as fund raising for people in need.”
Throughout the years band clubs around Malta continued to evolve, both in the way of organising local feasts, as well as in terms of the muscal education that is offered. Nowadays, band club have their own professional setup for musical education.
This year marks the 5th year that this music festival has been held in Kirkop and once again a collaboration was made with the Inspire Foundation in order for more donations to be collected for this good cause.
It is worth mentioning that during the last four years, a total of €10,000 was donated to Inspire.
