Two men were injured when a van exploded in Aldo Moro Road in Marsa on Monday afternoon.
First reports suggested that the van had suffered a blow-out but that seems to have been discared by authorities as interior of van was extensively damaged.
The incident happened shortly after 6pm and closed all four south-bound lanes.
The injured men were taken to Mater Dei Hospital.
Emergency services are searching debris from the accident as eyewitnesses report hearing a loud explosion.
