Parliamentary Secretary for EU Presidency 2017 and EU Funds Ian Borg met with State Secretary for the EU of the Czech Republic Tomáš Prouza.

During the meeting, Dr Borg outlined the priorities and the final preparations of the Maltese Presidency of the EU Council and explained that Malta’s aims will be to provide a meaningful contribution to the European process. He emphasised the need to identify the needs of all stakeholders including all member states particularly in the light of recent circumstances.

Dr Borg also referred to migration issues that demand a certain amount of priority.  The Bratislava roadmap was also discussed at length including the future challenges of the European Union and the consequences of Brexit on the EU. The Maltese Government is aware that negotiations for UK’s exit will start during the Presidency but the EU should equally focus on making the Union work for the remaining 27 Member States, said Dr Borg.

Parliamentary Secretary Borg concluded by saying that the EU needs to focus on achieving tangible results that can improve the lives of citizens.
