While thousands of tourists continue to flock Gozo’s own Ċittadella since its opening in June, the #CittadellaGozo Inaugural season draws to a fitting end with a number of different events this September.
Just after the Vitorja, Ċittadella will host the internationally renowned Yoga instructor Cinzia di Ciocciofor Sunset Yoga – a free of charge open-air Yoga workshop in the historic environs of Gozo’s oldest fortification.
This will be held on Saturday 10th September, kicking off at 6.30pm. This event will be followed by a concert featuring DCapital’s Band, in the Ċittadella Ditch, on Sunday 11th September, starting at 8:00pm. DCapital’s Band Live at Ċittadella Ditch will also be free of charge and it is a family oriented event.
This concert will pave way for the last major event for summer 2016, which is UMANI. A unique collaboration between Body Art Dance Group and none less than TRIBALI is set to end the #CittadellaGozo Inaugural season with a bang.
The event consists of a contemporary dance performance that will eventually blend into a Tribali concert nestled in between the bastions’ towering walls that will provide the most unique backdrop for such an event. UMANI, set up in the idyllic Ċittadella Ditch, is set to explore and celebrate humanity.
The event is suitable for all audiences and starts at 9pm. Free seating for the dance performance will be available on a first-come-first-served basis, while the Tribali share of the evening is earmarked for a standing audience.
Addressing members of the press, Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said that these final two weekends of #CittadellaGozo inaugural season consolidate the message that the Ċittadella is a living heritage to be continuously and repeatedly explored on different occasions, in different times and varying contexts.
With commercial establishments, catering outlets, the Gozo Law Courts, the Heritage Museums, the Culture Centre and the Visitors’ Centre and, of course, the Gozo Cathedral and the Santa Marija festive period serving to attract different visitors at different times of the day and summer, Ċittadella has been populated round the clock and has fast grown as a place to be associated with events of varying natures.
These final two weekends of performing arts, he said, will continue where the opening Swar u Ħajja event left off, establishing Gozo’s Ċittadella as the ultimate open-air performing arts venue, so rather than closing a season, really and truly a new era is being heralded.
Recalling the past events that formed part of the inaugural season, Minister Refalo expressed his satisfaction that this season is leaving a significant mark behind, as apart from performing arts events, #CittadellaGozo also invested in a free-to-use Ċittadella App that provides an easy touch-and-go audio guide for visiting tourists.
