The Cabinet approved an amendment tabled by the Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Carmelo Abela in the Act on National Holidays and Other Public Holidays.

Through this amendment the Government will be fulfilling another electoral promise in full and will be reversing what a Nationalist Government had done in 2005. With the amendment made in 2005 it was lost. the right that when a national holiday or public holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, that day is added as another day of holiday leave.

Now with this amendment, which must also be passed by Parliament, any national holiday or public holiday that falls on a Saturday or Sunday will be added to the leave. This means that from the year 2021 workers will take every day that falls as a National Holiday or public holiday.

Minister Carmelo Abela said that this Government will be giving back what others have denied and this in full. In fact, the Government is showing that it believes in the need for a work-life balance.

“This is a Government that believes in the valuable and fair contribution that every worker must make in the workplace but at the same time that the same workers must have time for themselves and their families.” This amendment is another example of how much this Government delivers on its promises.
