Two arrested after morning robberies

Car believed to have been used in double hold-up on Wednesday

While investigations were underway in connection with an early morning robbery in Sliema, at around 1130am, police were informed that another robbery had taken place, this time from a shop in Tal-Balal Road, San Gwann. It turns out that two hooded men armed with a knife entered the shop and demanded money from the cashier. They then fled the scene with a red Toyota Ractis.

A few moments after the theft, while officers were carrying out searches for the suspect vehicle, they noticed it being driven in Hamrun. It was stopped in Mountbatten Street, where the driver, a 42-year-old Maltese national and resident in Birzebbuga, was arrested.

Investigations revealed that in the Sliema robbery, the two robbers also used the same vehicle.

Meanwhile, further investigations led to the arrest of the second alleged thief, a 37-year-old Libyan national and residing in Sliema. He was arrested at his residence.
