Meeting with MCESD regarding the private pension scheme

During a meeting of the Malta Council for Economic and Social Development (MCESD), attended by Minister for Finance Clyde Caruana and Parliamentary Secretary for Social Dialogue Andy Ellul, Minister Caruana gave a presentation on the Occupational Pension Scheme.

Minister Clyde Caruana stated, “Today’s consultation with the MCESD is a crucial step in ensuring that the Occupational Pension Scheme is sustainable, fair and inclusive. This scheme is an important opportunity for workers to no longer rely solely on the State pension, but to have another tool to ensure a more stable financial future, in their retirement years.”

“The fact that the Government is not only implementing this scheme but will also actively participate by paying as much as the individual contributes, up to a maximum of €100, is a clear sign of the firm faith we have in this measure. This is not only an investment in today’s workers, but also in tomorrow’s pensioners,” said Minister Caruana.

Parliamentary Secretary Andy Ellul described how the MCESD is a means of fostering open dialogue in our country, as well as being an important point of reference in our country where important topics are discussed in every sector of our country’s society.

“This discussion is a very important one as it is spurring a lively dialogue, aimed at discussing ways of how as a country we move forward in the interest of our workers and families. These meetings clearly demonstrate the open social dialogue that is yielding good, as the social partners are participating in this dialogue and the decisions that are affecting the future of this country. Only in this way can we have discussions that truly reflect the realities of Malta and the needs of the people and their people,” said Parliamentary Secretary Ellul.
