The Minister for Economy, Enterprise and Strategic Projects Silvio Schembri met with the Minister of Economy of Armenia Gevorg Papoyan in Yerevan in Armenia, where they discussed the bilateral relations between the two countries and the potential of more economic activity between Malta and Armenia.
The ministers talked about investment possibilities in areas such as technology and research, as well as cooperation opportunities between various entities from the two countries. Minister Schembri mentioned that in Malta we have Armenian companies in the field of technology and gaming that are continuing to invest. The possibility of having other sectors such as software development that look to Malta as the European base for companies from Armenia was also discussed.
Minister Popoyan said that Armenia is open to investment from the European Union in particular to strengthen the digital economy, the ecosystem of start-ups in Armenia and in the field of blockchain , AI, cybersecurity and video game development. The two ministers also agreed on the need for better connectivity between the two countries through more efficient air routes.
Minister Silvio Schembri had meetings with companies with an interest in Malta during his visit to the Armenian capital. He was accompanied by the Executive Chairman of INDIS Malta Jean-Pierre Attard and by the CEO of Malta Enterprise Kurt Farrugia.
