At San Bastjan Primary School, San Ignatius College in Qormi, a Learning and Training Center in Education for Global Citizenship was inaugurated today, which is specially equipped to integrate what is taught in the classroom, and a practice that stimulates the student in a creative way.
The center will also serve as a training place for educators. “In the past few days we have launched both the National Strategy for Education 2024-2030 and the Strategy for Digital Education 2024-2030. This center is an excellent example of what is in these two strategies, which through a non-traditional style of education in the classroom, benefit both students and educators,” said the Minister for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation Clifton Grima before inaugurating the centre.
The inauguration of this center is a step forward in the way education is given to students because it looks at education through a modern lens and that meets the needs of today’s students, while also caters to the needs of the educator. In this center education is given that stimulates the student, because it is based on Future Classroom Lab with the aim of exploring how technology helps to develop new learning environments. This is an environment with modern technology so that, together, students and educators create new and creative ways of delivering education.
“It is crucial that students acquire 21st century skills and therefore focus among others on critical thinking, creativity and communication. The Strategy for Digital Education 2024-2030 emphasizes the urgency of preparing both educators and students to manage the complexities of the digital age responsibly. This is not only about acquiring technical skills but instilling a mentality that fosters adaptability, and critical thinking,” Minister Grima explained.
The Permanent Secretary within the Ministry Matthew Vella said that, “The opening of this center dedicated to learning linked to Global Citizenship Education Development gives more opportunity to the students to embrace the civic sense together with the environmental one. This aligns very well with the transformation that the education system is going through through the National Education Strategy 2024-2030 which aims to nurture holistic students. The theme of Global Citizenship Education is also being addressed in the accredited programs through the same strategy.”
Therefore, in this center, which is another space outside the traditional classroom, learning experiences can take place that foster those skills that are needed in today’s world.
