The Minister for Gozo and Planning Clint Camilleri has launched a new electronic platform, investgozo.gov.mt , which will be providing valuable information regarding investment, work and study in Gozo. In addition, the platform will also have information on the incentives that one can apply for.
Minister Camilleri also launched 7 schemes that continue to support businesses in Gozo and the creation of more quality jobs in Gozo. These schemes go hand in hand with the measures being taken to implement both the electoral promises and the Strategy for the Regional Development of Gozo.
“For the first time, we will have an electronic site and a brand for economic development in Gozo. This is essential in order to continue to improve and renew the local and international visibility of Gozo on digital platforms. We are also merging and listing the various incentive opportunities that exist on one platform. The enterprises in Gozo will thus always be updated and informed of the opportunities that the Government is offering,” Minister Camilleri explained.
The Minister stressed that the Government has committed to continue creating various opportunities for operations in Gozo which will also lead to more creation of quality and sustainable jobs. He mentioned that statistics show that in recent years work has increased in Gozo, as while in 2017 there were 11,512 people working in Gozo, in 2023 this figure rose to 16,410.
The 7 schemes that have been launched are:
- Supporting Sustainable Quality Employment in Gozo Scheme – The purpose of the scheme is the creation of quality and sustainable employment. The scheme offers partial salary reimbursement, spread over 3 years, for indefinite full-time employment in Gozo.
- Supporting Knowledge Based Sectors in Gozo Scheme – The scheme will offer partial salary reimbursement for specialized sector jobs in Gozo, better known as Knowledge Based Economic Activities. The scheme also includes an incentive related to training.
- Gozo Teleworking Scheme – This scheme is being launched again in order to continue to facilitate the commitment of Gozitan workers in Malta. In addition, those employees who have already benefited from the scheme for a period of 3 years, can now reapply in agreement with their employer.
- MICE Restoration Scheme – The aim of the scheme is to continue to incentivize investment that raises the quality of the Gozitan tourist product. The scheme offers financial support for the renovation and improvement of facilities that have the capacity to host activities related to the MICE tourism niche.
- Supporting the Adventurous Tourism Industry in Gozo through Hiring Equipment Refund Scheme – This scheme focuses on the adventure tourism niche. The aim is to continue to support the operators in this area in order to continue to improve the quality of the service and the touristic product offered by them.
- Supporting Marketing Initiatives for the Accommodation Sector in Gozo Scheme – This is a scheme dedicated to accommodation operators in Gozo where the incentive offered will be supporting their product and digital commitment. The aim of this scheme is that apart from the accommodation sector improving its digital competitiveness, it gains more visibility in the domestic and international markets.
- Supporting Marketing Initiatives for Specific Niche Markets in Gozo 2024 – The scheme incentivizes operators in particular niches to invest in promoting their product and the niche in which they operate. The aim of the scheme is to continue to promote the experience that the destination offers.
Minister Clint Camilleri ended by thanking the Directorate of Tourism and Economic Development within the Ministry that worked on these incentives.
For his part, the Director of Tourism and Economic Development Ronald Sultana explained that the InvestGozo brand has the primary objective of promoting Gozo in various relative forums, and at the same time promoting the various incentives that the Ministry will be administering.
