The Maltese Tourism Authority will be investing over € 400,000 in a new, more efficient and sustainable lighting system on the front of the Collegiate Basilica of Sant’Elena in Birkirkara. The idea is that this new light complements the architecture of this church with a cultural and religious history that goes back to the eighteenth century.
These details were announced in a news conference addressed by the Minister for Tourism and Public Cleanliness, Clayton Bartolo, the Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia in the presence of the Provost, Monsignor Rev. Louis Suban , and the President of the society Don Filippu Borgia, Joe Debono Grech.
Minister Clayton Bartolo pointed out how this is a project that joins a number of similar projects that have been done on other churches in recent years. “Malta is one tourist area. The traditions and cultural heritage left by our forefathers are a story that can be shared with anyone who visits the Maltese Islands. Therefore projects of this nature give added value to the tourist experience throughout the year,” repeated Minister Clayton Bartolo.
The Chairman of the Malta Tourism Authority Gavin Gulia said that this investment has the potential to further improve the tourist product that our country is able to offer.
“A big village like Birkirkara has a great history especially in culture and religion. We are investing in these types of projects to continue to strengthen religious tourism and continue to see more visitors who enjoy the unique experience in the local towns and villages,” stressed Chairman Gulia.
