In Slovakia, the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela held discussion meetings on the protection and care of the elderly, including the concept of active ageing. At the beginning of his visit to the region of Banská Bystrica, Minister Abela met with the President of this region Ondrej Lunter where the Assistive Tracking Devices project they are working on was discussed.
Minister Abela emphasized the importance of this meeting where the strategy being used in this region in favor of the elderly in the community was discussed. Minister Jo Etienne Abela explained how a public consultation was launched in Malta to introduce a system of Assistive Tracing Devices. Notice how through the visit to Slovakia, our country was able to follow more closely how much this system can help elderly people who want to continue living in the community but at the same time there is someone who can assist in a short time in case of emergency.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela ended his visit to Bratislava with a meeting with Slovak Minister Soña Gaborcakova. During this meeting themes of common interest to both countries were discussed in what concerns the care of the elderly. Especially regarding dementia and how with the ideas and vision of both countries, the quality of life of people with dementia can be improved. “There is much that unites Malta and Slovakia and we are committed as a Government to continue working to improve the quality of life in this sector”, concluded Minister Abela.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela was accompanied by the Maltese Ambassador to Slovakia Dr. Simon Cachia and the Permanent Secretary Christine Schembri.
