Students studying in the fourth year of the medicine course will have the opportunity to serve in what is known as the Vatican hospital, the Ospedale Pediatrico Bambino Gesù – one of the best pediatric hospitals.
This is with an agreement that will be signed in the coming days, which continues to strengthen the bilateral relationship between the Maltese Government and the Holy See.
This was pointed out by the Prime Minister Robert Abela in a meeting he had at Castile with the Secretary of State of the Vatican, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, during which the Prime Minister also announced that the Maltese Government will he will be donating to the clinic for the poor Ambulatorio Madre Della Misericordia founded by Pope Francis, a pneumatometer, which is a specialized medical device.
During this meeting, the strong relationship between the two states was also discussed, with the Prime Minister pointing out that both embrace social values and work in favor of social justice. Among others, the Maltese Government is carrying out continuous work to address economic challenges linked to inflation and energy and fuel prices, to protect and offer stability to families and businesses.
This is against the background of the importance that the Government is giving to the social state of the citizens including health service, childcare service, public transport and education free of charge. Prime Minister Abela also explained that the necessary steps are being taken to ensure a sustainable economy, including the digital and green transition, always with the aim of continuing to improve the quality of life of families.
The war in Ukraine, the situation in Sudan and Libya and immigration in the Mediterranean were also on the agenda. Prime Minister Robert Abela reiterated that Malta always works in favor of peace and as a member country of the United Nations Security Council we remain committed to offering humanitarian support. The Prime Minister was accompanied by the Minister for National Heritage, Arts and Culture Owen Bonnici, the Ambassador of Malta to the Vatican State Frank Zammit and by the Head of the Secretariat of the Office of Prime Minister Glenn Micallef.
