The first Malta-UK migration dialogue was opened today by the Minister for Foreign and European Affairs, Evarist Bartolo and the Parliamentary Undersecretary of State Ms. Wendy Morton M.P.
The UK High Commissioner to Malta Stuart William Gill was also present, along with officials from the Maltese Government and the Malta Police Force.
Minister Bartolo described the launch of this dialogue as a result of the excellent relations between the two countries and the continued willingness to face common challenges shoulder to shoulder.
Besides strengthening cooperation on irregular migration, discussions also focused on joint efforts to mitigate the instability in Libya, the fight to break the trafficking and smuggling business model, and the need for further engagement with Sub-Saharan Africa.
