Suspect in murder of Bernice Cassar arrested

A lengthly operation that lasted more than 17 hours and in which several attempts were made to negotiate with the alleged assailant of Bernice Cassar’s murder, came to an end around half past two this morning.

Police of the Special Intervention Unit entered the apartment of the alleged assailant on the second floor of a block of flats in Triq il-Kataginizi, il-Qrendi and used flash-bangs to immobilise the suspect who was then arrested.

Police also found the weapon that was probably used in the murder.
While the man did not suffer any injuries during the arrest, he was still assisted by a team
an ambulance medic who was on the scene.
