MP and former Deputy Leader of the Nationalist Party Robert Arrigo died on Tuesday morning aged 67.
Arrigo was a leading business man in the tourism industry, a former mayor of Sliema and president of Sliema FC.
Tributes have been received from leading political figures in Malta.
Nationalist Party leader Bernard Grech said he would be remembered for his loyalty to the party and his love for Malta.
His friend and former leader of the Nationalist Party Adrian Delia said “a gentle giant has left us”.
Prime Minister Robert Abela described him as a gentleman who gave so much to Malta. “Undoubtedly, the House will suffer his loss. My condolences to his family.”
European Parliament President Roberta Metsola paid tribute to “a friend and colleague”.
