During a news conference, the Minister for Active Aging Jo Etienne Abela together with the management of the San Vincenzo de Paul Hospital (SVDP), launched a new digital system that will benefit both professional users and patients in ‘SVDP.
This system will help primarily to improve access to patients’ medical information. This step is a digital leap that confirms the government’s commitment to advance the care of the elderly.
Minister Jo Etienne Abela claimed how this system is a testimony of the continuous need in favor of work that continues to spur the digital heart and also avoid excessive use of papers. He also reiterated that there are plans to expand this system to include all the homes for the elderly around Malta and Gozo.
The system is already used by doctors at Mater Dei Hospital as through it all the departments upload the medical information of the patients in this system and it is accessible in real time. Therefore, the information can be accessed in a speedy way that leads to more effectiveness in the care of the patient himself. This is being done in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.
Through this system, professionals, such as doctors and nurses, will be able to follow the medical history of patients and the distribution of information between the different professionals responsible for patient care will be facilitated. This system contains patient details and test results such as blood tests, the medications being administered, information on patient management and notable episodes that occur during treatment, such as also the details of each meeting of the professional with the patient.
