More social services in the community

The Foundation for Social Welfare Services is operating eight services in the community around Malta, covering all the regions of Malta as well as another separate directorate in Gozo. These services include the LEAP centers and community services offered by the Support Agency.

In addition to this help given by these centers, the FSWS is operating the concept of Home Based Therapeutic Services, where the professionals of the foundation go themselves to the homes to provide support to those who need it, especially when assistance is needed where there are families with children.

In a news conference, the Minister for Social Policy and Children’s Rights Michael Falzon said that during the year 2021 the FSWS gave help in more than one thousand and five hundred cases in these -centres. The help given is often with children who continue to live with their biological families after relatives’ difficulties have been addressed, while there are cases where the children reintegrate with their families.

Minister Michael Falzon praised the Home Based Therapeutic Services service and explained how this continues to encourage families to believe in themselves. He stressed that a clear message is being sent to these families that there is hope that the challenges will be addressed by them.

In one year, 578 families were given support in the comfort of their homes. Another innovative service that continues to make a difference is that of the Incredible Years Programme, where this program was involved in assisting 267 cases. This service deals with behavioral problems among children and challenges in raising children.

“Every year this government is always investing more millions of euros to reach people with challenges. Happy that we have teams of social professionals who assist vulnerable people on a daily basis. During the last years we have observed how the services in the community that FSWS is offering are always reaching more people and above all they give the help that that family needs at the moment,” Minister Michael Falzon concluded.
