Hibernians regained top spot in the BOV Premiership with a controlled 3-0 win over bottom side Sliema Wanderers.
Two goals from Jurgen Degabriele put Hibs firmly in the driving seat and Wilfried Domoraud’s late header sealed a routine afternoon for the leaders. The only dark cloud on the afternoon was a red card for defender Ferdinando Apap.He will now miss next week’s game against Valletta.
Hibernians started brightly enough, the best early chance falling to captain Bjorn Kristensen who headed over from close range.
Jurgen Degabriele did get the ball in the back of the net but he was offside, a let-off for Sliema.
The opening goal duly arrived when Degabriele curled a sublime free kick into the top corner past a stranded Timothy Aquilina.
Sliema did create an opening just before the break but Kurt Shaw could only shoot wide.
The second half began with more of the same. Hibernians on the front foot and Sliema defending for all their worth.
Hibs doubled their lead just on the hour when Domoraud set up Degabiele to make it 2-0.
Within minutes it was 3-0, Domoraud starting the move in midfield and then driving into the box to fire past Aquilina.
Apap then picked up a second booking and a red card to leave Hibs with 10 men but a comfortable three goal lead.
Substitute Sohna found some space inside the Hibs box but his effort was easily smothered by Kone.
In the end a comfortable win for Hibernians who now have a two point lead at the top of the table.
