President of Malta George Vella has met again with representatives of the Institute of Maltese Journalists (IĠM) at Sant’Anton Palace. The first meeting took place on the 27th of April this year, and the intention is to maintain regular contact.
During the meeting, discussions were held on the situation in the field of journalism in our country, including the strengthening of the profession of journalists, freedom of expression, and the respect for ethics and standards in this field, possibly under a national regulatory structure. Views were exchanged on the recommendations regarding journalism made in the report of the public inquiry board on the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, and on the challenges faced by members of the institute.
The IĠM was represented by President Matthew Xuereb, Vice President Claire Farrugia, and Secretary General Kurt Sansone.
