The second edition of the Dementia Awareness National Award 2021 will be held on 24th September. Minister for Senior Citizens and Active Ageing Michael Farrugia announced that after a one-year absence, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year there will be a series of activities spread over the month of September, the month dedicated to awareness about the condition of dementia.
The Dementia Awareness Award recognizes the altruistic gestures, dedication, and sacrifices by individuals, professionals, family members, and organizations who work and care for persons suffering from dementia and their relatives.
Minister said that the nominations are open as from today and there will be a selection board to evaluate all nominations received till the 6th of September.
In this edition, three awards will be presented. The first is the Outstanding Contribution Award in the field of Dementia. This award is open to those who have made or are making exceptional contributions in this field and who are not necessarily directly associated with the direct care of those suffering from dementia.
The Informal Carer Award is for primary caregivers, mainly family members, close relatives, or other significant individuals who are directly responsible of the person suffering with dementia.
The third award is the professional or team of professionals award for persons who officially work in the sector of dementia.
