Leo Brincat looks set to become Malta’s next member of the Auditors of the European Court after the Permanent Representatives to the EU states approved his nomination, Maltatoday reports.
COREPER is the Committee of Permanent Representatives in the European Union, made up of the head or deputy head of mission from the EU member states in Brussels, they approved Leo Brincat’s nomination and that now only needs formal confirmation by the Council of Ministers when they meet on September 29.
Brincat had failed to get the approval of MEP’s after the European People’s Party, of which the Opposition Nationalist Party is a member, had voted en-masse against him.
The European Council of Ministers, which is empowered to overrule the EP’s rejection, is expected to formally confirm Brincat’s nomination when it meets on September 29.
