With an investment of more than € 900,000, the Rapid Intervention Unit is equipped with a fleet of more modern vehicles that will lead to greater safety on our roads. This was announced by the Minister of Interior, National Security and Law Enforcement Byron Camilleri, during a news conference in which twenty new vehicles were inaugurated.
Minister Camilleri explained how, over the last four years, the government has invested around € 3 million in the police fleet to ensure that the Police Force is equipped to face today’s realities. He said that in most cases of accidents it is the members of the RIU who act first on behalf of the Police, while they carry out continuous patrols all over the country. Therefore, the government was committed to investing in this section, as the work of the officials within it depends a lot on the vehicles with which they operate.
“We will invest where and how much is needed, but we will demand work, value for money and respect for the citizen,” stressed the Minister, who explained how the investment in the Police Force will continue through a series of other projects expected to be completed this year. Among them, the construction of two new police stations and the extension of the community police in a number of new localities. These are all links in a chain of initiatives that should lead to strong reform in the Corps.
