Opposition leader calls for PM to suspend Cabinet minister

PN Leader Bernard Grech

Opposition leader Bernard Grech has called for Prime Minster Robert Abela to suspend Cabinet Minister Carmelo Abela over allegations of involvement in a 2010 HSBC robbery.

Grech as been calling for the removal of Carmelo Abela for some time ever since his name was linked to a failed HSBC robbery but following renewed allegations by George and Alfred Degiorgio, two of the men charged with the murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, that Abela was involved in the HSBC robbery, he has renewed his efforts to put pressure on Prime Minister Robert Abela to suspend Carmelo Abela.

The Degiorgio brothers have written to the European Commission for Justice complaining the their request for a presidential pardon being turned down. They had asked for the pardon in return for information of major crimes. It is believed that the letter implicated Carmelo Abela in the bank robbery.
