Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs and Tourism Ian Borg paid tribute to the workers in the hospitality, accommodation, and many other related tourism sectors for their contribution to the festivities of locals and tourists in Malta and Gozo this Christmas.

On Christmas Eve, the Deputy Prime Minister visited a major hotel in St Julian’s to meet with some of its employees and to thank tourism workers for their efforts during these holidays. It is estimated that up to 30,000 full-time and part-time workers will be on duty in hotels, restaurants, and other catering establishments this Festive Season.

“This is a time to celebrate the joy of Christmas with family and friends, but for many in the tourism industry, it is also one of the busiest times of the year, with long hours away from their loved ones. We are here to commend your dedication during these holidays,” Borg said, as he encouraged employers to continue investing in their workers, as they are the key to the future success and sustainability of hospitality and tourism in the Maltese Islands.

The Deputy Prime Minister also underscored the contribution of workers in many other sectors, especially essential services, who also need to continue working during these festivities.

Malta Tourism Authority Chief Executive Officer Carlo Micallef accompanied the Deputy Prime Minister during his visit to the Malta Marriot Resort and Spa on Tuesday morning. Malta Hotels and Restaurants Association President and Chief Executive Officer Tony Zahra and Andrew Agius Muscat were also present during the visit.
